Ambassador of Ukraine meets with Rep. Marcy Kaptur

 

On December 5, Ambassador Oleh Shamshur met with the co-chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus, Representative Marcy Kaptur of Ohio.

He briefed Rep. Kaptur on the situation in Ukraine in the wake of the Sept. 30 parliamentary elections and completion of the new governing coalition. One of the discussion points was the future visit to the United States by the newly elected Speaker Arseniy Yatseniuk.

Congresswoman was also interested in the ongoing discussions on the origins, scale and historic implications of the Ukrainian Genocide (Holodomor). Ambassador Shamshur explained how Ukraine’s Government and general public view this tragedy and expressed hope that the 75th anniversary of Holodomor will be duly commemorated by the US Congress.

Another topic of discussion was Ukraine’s desire to enhance and expand the youth and student exchange between two countries. Rep. Kaptur indicated her readiness to be actively engaged in this kind of projects.

 

 

Посол України зустрівся з Конгресвумен Марсі Каптур

 

5 грудня Посол Олег Шамшур мав зустріч зі співголовою українського «кокусу» в Палаті представників Конгресу США конгресвумен Марсі Каптур.

Він поінформував конгресвумен про політичний розвиток в Україні у контексті успішних парламентських виборів та завершення формування урядової коаліції. Одною із тем був майбутній візит до Сполучених Штатів новообраного Голови Верховної Ради Арсенія Яценюка.

Конгресвумен виявила значний інтерес до триваючих дискусій навколо історії, масштабу та історичних наслідків українського Голодомору. Посол Шамшур виклав офіційну позицію української влади з цього приводу та висловив сподівання, що 75-та річниця Голодомору буде гідно вшанована у Конгресі США.

Також ішлося про прагнення України що розширення та нарощування мережі молодіжних та студентських обмінів між двома країнами. Марсі Каптур виявила значну зацікавленість та готовність бути активно задіяною у реалізації таких програм.
